DIRECTOR FEEDBACK

We were lucky enough for a director to look at our work an comment on what we have done so far for our rough cut. He said the following about our work:

- Genrally very good.
- Split screen at beginiing a bit random as there are no other split screens on rest of video.
- Really likes backwards, slowed down footage etc. However needs more of it in the band earlie on in the sequence.
- A few random flashes which dont work.

FEEDBACK!

We showed our video to the other groups in our class in order to get their opinions on our rough cut footage:

* Camerawork is very good, good variety of angles and distances
* Editing works well, the sped up and slowed down shots are effective and add to the surreal effect. Good pace of editing.
* Mise en scene is great, the lighting in the rave scene is really atmospheric, and the colours work well. Nice use of band equipment.
* Performance is really energetic and the lip synching is good. Authentic.
* The effects work well, of the people walking around the girl, and the backwards hair flick shots. The editing pace is fast enough to create interest, but isn't too fast.
* Contrast between the band, rave, and the street scene is very effective: clear, not confusing, interesting.
* The performance is believable, they all look confident and the miming works well.

ROUGH CUT!

Filming of Ruth in Town

We filmed the last part of our video on location in Cambridge... we filmed Ruth walking through the streets and having a breakdown. We will apply effects to this footage using Final Cut in order to make it more interesting, and to convey the mental anguish of her character. We have lots of experimental footage; we filmed Ruth spinning around on a swing which we will speed up and blur, in order to make her stand out from the spinning background. We also filmed her standing in a crowd of people, which we will use as a time lapse. We will experiment using jump cuts and split screens when we edit some of the footage, to create interesting effects to convey her distorted reality.

Here are some photos from our filming on town:

And who says media filming can't be fun?!?!

Footage so far

Party Scene

So far, we have shot the footage for the party/rave scene of the "night before", which we did in the White room on the College site. We used disco lights, strobe lights and fairy lights to create the atmosphere of a party. We blacked out the windows with fabric, and invited lots of people to come and dance with glowsticks, in order to make the footage seem realistic.

We are pleased with the footage, we have over 20 minutes worth to choose from! We will use short sections as part of a montage in our video, in order to give a 'flashback' effect. We tried to get lots of close ups, long shots and high angles. We tried using a fisheye lens, but found that the room was too dark for this to work properly. Hopefully this will work well with the other footage we are planning to shoot next week...

Performance Footage

We shot the performance footage of the band playing the song in a room at our friend's house. We used lots of guitar amps, cables and microphone stands as props, in order to make the footage appear more realistic. We also used fairy lights to make the footage more interesting. We used a fisheye lens for this shoot, which worked well and created interesting effects. We have lots of good footage to work with, including close ups, cutaways and low/high shots. We will edit this all together and mix it with the party footage...
